From Fisherman's Son to Global Grandmaster

Born on 10 August 1964 in Neelangarai, Chennai into a humble fisherman's family, Sekar discovered karate at age 12. Inspired by Bruce Lee, he trained up to eight hours daily.

He won three consecutive national championships (1984–86), set a world record sparring 200 black belts, and became the first and youngest Indian to receive an 8th Dan directly from Okinawan grandmaster Kaicho Dr. Tetsuhiro Hokama.

In 2023 he received the 9th Dan black belt in Okinawa. In 2025 he was appointed to the Board of Directors of the International Kenshikai Goju-Ryu Karate and Kobudo Organization.
